How do I create a baked-in SmartPromo?
Creating a Baked-in SmartPromo
Baked-in SmartPromos allow you to measure the conversion rate of "baked-in" promotions, or the number of devices that download an episode of your show after downloading a podcast episode that contains a promotion for your show.
If you're looking to create a SmartPromo for a dynamically inserted promotion, click here to learn more.
The ability to create SmartPromos is available for teams on a Pro or Enterprise plan. Any Chartable team can approve a SmartPromo request from another team.
Your team's Trackable analytics prefix must be installed on your show's RSS feed before you can create a SmartPromo to measure a promotion for your show that will run on another show. The show that is running the promotion must also have a Trackable analytics prefix installed on its RSS feed.
To provide measurement data for baked-in promotions, we require approval from the Chartable team that is running the promotion on their show.
If you're planning to measure a promotion using a SmartPromo, talk to the team you're working with first to ensure that their hosting platform is compatible with SmartPromos.
To get started, visit the SmartPromos page in your Chartable dashboard, then click on the green Create Promo button in the top right.
1. Enter the name of the podcast you're promoting
2. Select Baked-In
3. Enter the name of the podcast that the promotion is running on
4a. For external baked-in promotions: Select when the spot is running, and select/type the name of the publisher team you're working with
Select the air date that the episode is expected to drop on, or has dropped on.
Then, select or type the name of the selling publisher's Chartable team, so that they can approve the request to share attribution for the promotion. The selling team will be able to select the episode containing the promo during the approval process, after the selected air date.
For baked-in SmartPromo campaigns, attribution can be done retroactively within the first 60 days of the episode drop, so long that the podcasts involved had the Trackable prefix integrated in the RSS feeds for measurement.
Generally, for baked-in promos, attribution will only populate if the Chartable team that has their Trackable analytics prefix on the sold podcast's RSS feed (the "owner" team) approves the promo. If you prefer, the Chartable support team can create an agency partnership relationship between a podcast and other team dashboards. This would allow a team other than the "owner" to approve promos for the podcast if it is sold.
4b. For internal baked-in promotions: Select when the spot is running
If the spot has already run, select "Aired" and start typing the name of the episode containing the promo.
For baked-in SmartPromo campaigns, attribution can be done retroactively within the first 60 days of the episode drop, so long that the podcasts involved had the Trackable prefix integrated in the RSS feeds for measurement.
5. Click Create Promo
You can see SmartPromos you've already created in the SmartPromos page by clicking on the Manage tab in the sub-navigation at the top of the page. The Promos tab in the Manage page displays internal SmartPromos & external approved SmartPromos. The Requests tab displays external SmartPromos that haven't been approved.
If it's an external SmartPromo, we'll assign the request to the appropriate Chartable team for approval. Teams can approve SmartPromo requests from their Ad Ops page (more info here).
If the external SmartPromo has been assigned to the wrong publisher team (you can check in the "Publisher" column of the Requests tab in your SmartPromos page), please email [email protected] and let us know the name of the SmartPromo and which publisher team it should be re-assigned to.
Once the external publisher has approved the SmartPromo and matched the appropriate episode to it for measurement, you'll begin seeing analytics data for it in your SmartPromos > Analytics page shortly.
